The Counsellors

We had 9 camp counsellors for our 2009 camp. They lead the Camp Quest activities and looked after the children in a pastoral sense. For 2010 we will have two camps, with 6 counsellors each. Due to an incredible amount of publicity last summer, we have received hundreds of applications for a very small amount of camp counsellor positions. We have a high rate of returning counsellors, and therefore only have at most one or two places for newcomers this year. We are sorry that we can’t as yet offer more opportunities, but we hope you will appreciate that we are a very small organisation and only now are we beginning to grow.

NB. We use the term counsellor to mean group leader (as in the American tradition), not as a provider of psychological help!

Samantha Stein – Camp Director

Samantha is the founder and Camp Director of Camp Quest UK, having been inspired to start up over here after her experiences at Camp Quest Michigan in 2007. She is currently studying for a Masters in Religion in Contemporary Society at Kings College London, having done her undergraduate studies in Psychology. An atheist her whole life, she became interested in getting involved with the freethinking community after reading “The God Delusion” and attends many conferences and talks at home and abroad.

Richard Craig

A participant during university of the National Mentoring Pilot Project that assisted failing GCSE students in schools to achieve at least a grade higher than their predicted marks, Richard has also set up and been a Treasurer for number of student organisations, and has since moved on to helped set up and organise new businesses. He is currently studying at the University of Bristol for a PhD in Rehabilitation Robotics

Rita Harrold

Rita heard of Camp Quest UK when she was a counsellor in 2008 in the original Camp Quest in Ohio. She is from Dublin and will start her second year of English and Music in University College Dublin this September. She was raised by Atheist parents and first became involved in Humanism when she joined the Humanist Association of Ireland at the age of 14.

Kyrill Potapov

Kyrill Potapov will be a camp counsellor for the fourth time this summer. He loves working with kids and doing all kinds of creative projects with them. He also enjoys writing, comedy and music. He is currently studying English and Creative Writing at Kent University. His skepticism comes from a love of modern thought and literature.

Dianna Moylan

Dianna Moylan has been a thinker all her life. She has worked with people of all ages in amateur theatre as writer and director, and was a secondary classroom teacher of Humanities. She has organised and taken part in many residential courses for young people. Now she’s a grandmother she is trying (but not terribly hard) to grow up.

Jens Christensen

Jens Enzo Nyby Christensen is currently finishing up an engineering degree at the University of Southampton. Here he has spent most of his spare time working on various outreach projects for kids, playing music and organising talks and debates as the president and founder of the local Atheist Society. After the summer he will continue studying as a PhD student. Jens is originally from Denmark.
